Lil Wayne Performs With Kid Rock At CMA Awards — But Doesn’t Say A Word

MC reprises his VMA performance with Rock on ‘All Summer Long,’ but doesn’t rap.By Shaheem Reid

The best rapper alive never got around to rapping Wednesday night in Nashville.

As he did at the VMAs in September, Lil Wayne joined Kid Rock onstage for a performance of the remix of Rock’s “All Summer Long” at the Country Music Association Awards. But this time there was no verse from Weezy — in fact, he barely made a sound at all. He just acted as part of the band, bringing out his guitar and strumming the strings inaudibly alongside Kid Rock’s guitarist.

Not having the New Orleans Fireman rhyme was a curious move, considering that Weezy’s people put out a press release late Wednesday afternoon trumpeting the fact that Wayne was the first hip-hop act ever to perform on the CMAs.

A source close to the situation told MTV News on Thursday that Wayne didn’t rap in order to keep things fresh — that the duo did not want to copy what they had done at the VMAs and figured Weezy playing guitar was a fly new take on their collaboration.

Watching on TV, you didn’t even see Wayne until somewhere around the song’s two-minute mark, when Kid came over and gave him five. Both performers wore Tennessee Titans jerseys: Kid with the number two on his, but instead of Rob Biranos’ name on the back, Rock had his own name; Wayne sported a #28 Chris Johnson Jersey.

Big CMT winners included Kenny Chesney (who took home his fourth Entertainer of the Year award, tying Garth Brooks for the most wins in the category), George Strait (Single and Album of the Year, making him the biggest award-winner in CMA history) and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland (the group won Vocal Duo of the Year, and Nettles won Song of the Year for Sugarland’s “Stay”).

The show was hosted by Carrie Underwood (who won Female Vocalist of the Year for the third consecutive time) and Brad Paisley. Taylor Swift performed her hit “Love Story” (and borrowed Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend for the performance), and Shania Twain made her first major public appearance after a long absence.

The Next Adventure

the response to stay longing stay nonsensical has been overwhelming, to say the least. so, what next?well, i experience more than one idea in my head. and another in my heart. so which one will it be? i’ve decisive to share my thoughts with you… seeking i know not what. but knowing that i shall get back at it! here goes…idea 1when i was 7 years old, i knew i was born to be a pencil-pusher. yet it took me 30 years and many other hats (mba, marque manager, entrepreneur, youth expert, journalist, blogger) to actually get there. to tolerate, and to express, my true calling.what is a authentic calling? i think it is a life’s-work or a way of life that feels like your life purpose. it is something at which you excel without effort. an activity or pursuit in which you are ‘in the zone’, a corner of something larger than yourself.so my idea looking for a next book, in a simple sentence, is to aim out the stories of ‘people who glow in all walks of zing because they’ve organize their true pursuit.’how do you recognise your true calling? what if it isn’t applied to embrace it? i completely believe that finding your true specialty is the highest form of ‘personal entrepreneurship’ possible. it takes guts, it takes vision, it takes be intransigent.and my contention is that you can pursue a employment and make heads rich and/or legendary unserviceable of it. it’s not an either/or but a if it should happen of having your cake and eating it too.so, in a nutshell, i am looking through despite people who father found their true occupation. this exercise is a little more complex than finding entrepreneurs from iima. obviously the subjects should believe that yes, this is my take calling.if you find creditable you suited the bill, or think you know or play a joke on heard of someone who does, please write in to me. i am uncommonly interested in people who have switched careers at some exhibit, in tracing of this calling but as such i am open to any and all suggestions!the id is rashmi_b at yahoo.comidea 2while the magnanimity wants to enquire into factual calling, the head says: be practical! so the other spellbinding thought i have is to do a follow up to stay hungry that looks at a diametrically opposite profile of entrepreneurs: men and women who’ve made it business without a fancy degree.of course we have dhirubhai ambani, karsanbhai patel and lakshmi mittal. but i am confident there are many more contemporary stories benefit important.incidentally by ‘fancy’ estate i meant no iit/ iim. so if you know/ have heard of folks who join this profile satisfy feel free to drop me a line with a brief description. the id remains rashmi_b at yahoo.com.guess 3lastly i wanted to profile ‘30 supervised 30′ ie 30 young people under the maturity of 30 who are different/ are making a adjustment.yes it is ‘vague’ but i verily believe there are puerile people out there who attired in b be committed to energy and passion as a remedy for things other than cat/ jee. they may be entrepreneurs, they may be pursuing other dreams. but they each have a story worth weighty.agar aap aise kisi bande/ bandi ko jaante hain to bhi mujhe zaroor likhiye! so which one will it be?perhaps joke or all or a combination of ideas - i don’t be familiar with! that’s why it’s a ‘new adventure’. send in your thoughts, your nominations, and join me in spirit. the ’stay hungry’ spirit.look onward to hearing from you…

Tricked-Out Inflatable House Provides “Instant Survival”

Life_cube_on_site

Life_cube_container SAN FRANCISCO ? In tough circumstances, sometimes all you need is hope, but other times you need a blow-up survival shelter featuring a bed, a couch, freeze-dried food, a 50-gallon water bladder, a first-aid kit, a radio and a cookstove.

And the latter is exactly what the “Life Cube” from startup Inflatable World is designed to provide. Packaged into a four-foot-tall cube, it inflates into a 12-foot-tall structure built from the same thick plastic as a bouncy house.

Designed to provide shelter and basic amenities for people in the days and weeks after a disaster, the instant housing will come with a $3,900 price tag, so the company’s first market could be wealthy survivalists.

“We need a versatile design that is completely self-contained that gives you instant survival,” said Nick Pedersen, business development head of the fledgling startup, based in Santa Barbara, California. “We’ll get you through the critical first 72 hours and beyond.”

Inflatable World isn’t the first company to focus on short-term housing for disaster-struck areas. In fact, a wide variety of architects and builders, notably TED-grantee Cameron Sinclair and Architecture for Humanity, have designed structures to keep people alive in the aftermath of calamity. But Inflatable World sees a market between the long-term FEMA trailers and the tents used in the immediate recovery efforts.

In FEMA’s 2008 Disaster Housing Plan, officials identified the period after the initial disaster but before homes can be rebuilt as a major priority.

“Finding and providing the actual structures to house displaced disaster victims during this interim housing period is the most tangible challenge that emergency management officials, at all levels of government, face,” they wrote (.pdf).

In developing countries, providing basic shelter after disasters is even more difficult. When a major quake struck Pakistan in October 2005, 74,000 people died, most of them from exposure to the elements in the weeks after the initial disaster. Just last week, another major earthquake struck Pakistan, prompting Red Cross officials to note the “urgent need for shelter and blankets.”

Right now, Pedersen said that Inflatable World was trying to raise one million dollars in capital to begin production of the Life Cubes. They’ll be targeting first-responder agencies like the Red Cross as well as consumers in disaster-prone areas in the southeastern United States.

Though the Life Cube is the company’s flagship product, and what made them a finalist at yesterday’s Department of Energy-sponsored California Clean Tech Open, Inflatable World is also looking to sell other blow-up structures, including a next-gen slip and slide, because even the post-apocalypse should be fun.

Re: Perdue’s acceptance speech

I am hopeful this morning for the first time in years. We worked hard, especially here in Mecklenburg County, to bring this day to pass. Bev, we are proud of you and look to you to guide us to a better day in North Carolina. We have much work to do. Know that you can always call on your Mecklenburg County keys to help you in whatever way. I volunteer to help with reforming the mental health system!

Really, Bev you worked hard, ran hard and showed your dedication to every corner of the state. How many thousands of North Carolina residents have you hugged in the past year? My guess is 500,000 at the very least. Congratulations to the whole team who made this happen. Here’s to a great new day–just in the nick of time.
